AT and Swimming Teacher, Dip Alexander Technique Teaching, AustSwim
Swimming is recommended by doctors and sportsmen worldwide for its low impact, high resistance and full body workout. However, like in any other exercise, improper technique and excessive and unnecessary body tension will not only render swimming inefficient, but will cause further injury to your body in the long run. Ferry is a qualified Alexander Technique practitioner and swimming teacher who has been incorporating Alexander technique principles into his swimming lessons since 2005. His students have ranged from 5 to 60 year old beginners to triathletes looking to improve their stroke. Ferry’s focus includes: - recognizing and understanding how your habits effect your swimming
- knowing when to relax or apply effort in your stroke (propulsion vs. non-propulsion)
- developing a constructive approach to learning through visualization and breaking down strokes into progressive steps
- learning to lead with your head, lengthen your body and breathe with ease as you swim
- swimming efficiently and gracefully in a way that benefits the body and mind
