David Moore  assisted by Rossella Buono will be running a three day workshop on yoga and the Alexander Technique in Berlin. It will be of particular interest to yoga teachers, Alexander Technique teachers and experienced practitioners in those disciplines.

David will also be offering private lessons on  Thursday 29th August Cost €70 for a one- hour lesson

"I have now been working as a yoga teacher for almost ten years and I have had the pleasure to work with many differently bodied people, including lots of people in chronic pain. I have seen the wonders that yoga has done in gently “untying” the emotional, physical and mental knots that people's lives, habits, choices and luck have created. I am and will be forever grateful to yoga's incredible transformative power. And yet, sometimes in my teachings, I would feel stuck in giving the right advice to students with certain deeply ingrained physical habits of coordination. My yoga teacher training did not prepare me for that level of analysis.

In July 2017, I had the pleasure to host David Moore and Rossella Buono, in a six hour workshop at our studio in English Yoga Berlin. They brought the Alexander Technique into yoga and into my life. They provided me with the “missing link” I was needing in order to take my yoga teaching to the next level. I understood that certain students were getting stuck in yoga poses because they were losing sight of the overall process of coordination. The “missing link” was in understanding and coordinating the basic posture from which all other poses rise.... or in other words, understanding what “sit up straight” really means.

In a merely six hour workshop, I learned so much as a yoga teacher! I was so inspired by this workshop that I immediately started applying my new knowledge to my every day yoga classes, getting a lot of positive feedback from students. Since then, I have been working on getting David and Rossella back to teach Berlin yoga teachers more about how these two practices can work together.To my delight they returned to run a six day workshop here in 2018, and will be coming back again at the end of August 2019 to run another summer workshop.

What will be covered in this workshop


These three days will give us the opportunity to explore the basics of posture movement and breathing and give participants the skills to develop a personalised approach to their yoga practice based on their own unique characteristics and needs.

Alexander yoga encompasses a whole way of mindful living. The practice does not end on the yoga mat, but involves the development of our awareness to how we are living and moving in all aspects of our lives. Besides examining and refining yoga poses we will be looking at everyday activities as simple as walking, standing and sitting. 

  • Coordination and posture from an Alexander Technique perspective 

  • Modifying yoga poses

  • Breathing and pranayama

  • Deepening observation skills

  • Meditation

  • Freeing the energy flow through the body

  • Identifying and overcoming habits

  • Doing and non-doing

  • Developing an individualized practice

Yoga teachers will receive a certificate of participation for this workshop.


Friday 30th August

  • 10-11 Introduction to  Alexander Technique priciples

  • 11-1 Yoga class

  • 1-2 Lunch

  • 2-2.30 Relaxation

  • 2.30 - 3.30 Anatomy, Individual habits and relationship with yoga poses

  • 3.30-4.30 Groups explore Anatomy, Individual habits and relationship with yoga poses (we will split into two groups)

  • 4.30-5 Meditation and reflection

Saturday 31st August

  • 10 - 12 Yoga Class

  • 12 - 1 Groups - standing, sitting, walking, bending etc (split up into two groups)

  • 1-2 Lunch

  • 2 - 3 Group - Breathing and voice

  • 3 - 4.30 Yoga practice

  • 4.30 -5 Meditation and reflection

Sunday 1st September 

  • 8 - 10 Yoga Class

  • 10.00- 12.00 Groups - Yoga adjustments, how to

  • 12.00 - 1.00 Lunch

  • 1.00 - 2.30  General review and Yoga practice

David is the director of the School for F.M Alexander Studies in Melbourne which has been running a three year full time training course for Alexander teachers since 1998. He has been developing and teaching the application of the Alexander Technique to yoga practice for over 30 years. Besides his Melbourne practice he teaches workshops and retreats throughout Australia and internationally.

David undertook extensive yoga and meditation practice and training prior to becoming a teacher of the Alexander Technique. This included over two years of insight meditation in Thai meditation monasteries, two years of training at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandaram with TKV Desikatchar and his teachers and a teacher training course in Iyengar Yoga


The workshop fee is refundable (minus €50 for administration  if cancellation occurs before July 30.
