Freedom in Gesture & Sound: A workshop for musicians, instrumentalists, and singers of any background.
This workshop will help you integrate body & mind with music itself, so that instead of “playing music” you’ll “be music.” Bring an instrument or your voice, and be ready to perform something for us: an exercise, a piece or a section of a piece, an improvisation, or anything that you wish to work on in your search for freedom.
Pedro de Alcantara is a musician, writer, and teacher. His books include Integrated Practice: Coordination, Rhythm & Sound and Indirect Procedures: A Musician’s Guide to the Alexander Technique, and The Integrated String Player: Embodied Vibration, all published by Oxford University Press. His most recent music project is “Don’t Look Back: Songs of Orpheus,” a solo cycle of compositions inspired by the story of Orpheus and Eurydice, employing the voice, cello, piano, and whistling. Pedro lives in Paris and is Visiting Professor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
