Introduction to the Alexander Technique:
Special Seniors' Week Workshop
Friday October 11, 2019
1.30pm to 3.30pm
Join David Moore for an informative and practical look at how you can retain or improve your balance, posture and mobility in your everyday life and activities.
This session, which is taught annually as part of the Victorian Seniors' Festival and will be run by David, an Alexander Technique teacher of 35+ years experience, the Director of the School for F M Alexander Studies, and, author of a best-selling Smart Yoga: Apply the Alexander Technique to Enhance Your Practice, Prevent Injury, and Increase Body Awareness. (The Alexander Technique approach to yoga is ideal for people with restricted movement and/ or those who wish to engage in well being and fitness in a mindful and low impact way.)
The Alexander Technique is an approach to the study of movement. It helps you to eliminate unnecessary tension while learning to move in an easier, more effective way in daily activities. During this workshop David will introduce you to the basic principles of the Alexander Technique from a practical perspective and how they can be used by seniors to improve their posture and balance.
During the afternoon we will look at how participants can sit, stand and walk in a way that is easy on the body and potentially can prevent and alleviate tension, pain and restriction. In addition, we will look at activities with which people may have particular difficulties such as working at a keyboard, writing, playing an instrument or a whole range of everyday activities.
